The hard-throwing right hander, who has not pitched since May 25 because of a strained ligament in his right index finger, is scheduled to make a rehab start Sunday for the Mets’ Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones.
“He could be back before the All-Star break,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters before Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
According to the New York Daily News, barring rainouts or other variables, Syndergaard could return July 13 against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
Syndergaard’s return would be welcome, but the Mets are still a long way from contention.
And that is why New York are reportedly considering trade offers for Syndergaard and fellow starter Jacob deGrom.
