Syracuse will be White’s third college basketball team.  He played the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at Kansas, where he didn’t get a lot of minutes, before transferring to Nebraska. The wing player averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Cornhuskers last season. White shot 41.2 percent from long range and made 2.6 three-pointers per game.

White entered the 2016 NBA Draft after graduating from Nebraska this spring but withdrew his name ahead of the deadline. With another season of collegiate eligibility, White, in addition to Syracuse, visited Michigan State and Miami and also considered VCU in his hometown of Richmond, Syracuse.com noted.

ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman writes White “should play a major role” on the Orange, and his addition “should help ease the early departure” of Malachi Richardson, who left after this freshman season and was drafted by the Hornets with the No 22 pick in June’s draft before being traded to the Kings in early July.

“I think it was the opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages in all of college basketball,” White told Syracuse.com on Sunday of his decision. “After getting to know the coach (Jim Boeheim) and some of the players I feel like they have a good plan for me. That was really important since I’m coming in as a transfer and playing right away instead of sitting out a year.”

White was on the Syracuse campus Sunday and was looking forward to meeting his new teammates later in the day.

“I felt like this was too good of an opportunity to pass up,” he said.
