The most recent post by Nightdive is the first update on the game’s Kickstarter since November 2020, which announced the completion of the Big Box Collector’s Edition. Since then, System Shock fans have been waiting patiently for more news, with this latest post possibly indicating the release might be coming in the near future.

According to the update, pre-orders for System Shock will be going up sometime at the end of February, though the exact date for securing an early purchase wasn’t specified. The game will be available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store, so PC players can go through their preferred purchasing method when it comes to picking it up. In addition to getting access to the original’s remake, pre-ordering will also give players access to the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, which will also be free for any $30 or higher Kickstarter backers.
Alongside the pre-order, Nightdive will be giving players an even deeper look into the System Shock remake’s gameplay with the final demo that will be released before launch. Exactly what will be in this final demo is still up in the air, and this specific build of the game likely won’t be entirely reflective of what players can expect to see in the full launch. So, as interesting as a new chance to get a feel for the game is, the developer likely has larger hopes for the overall experience recreating the 1994 classic than the small taste available in the demo.
It isn’t entirely clear yet when the full release of the game will be coming, especially considering the Steam page still has the release date set for an earlier projected launch in 2020 as of this writing. Similarly, Nightdive wasn’t clear on when System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition will release, though the developer does intend to deliver on both titles around the same time. So, fans might want to keep an eye out for when development does finish, lest those players miss out on their chance to get these two classic titles together.
System Shock is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
