Waititi is the handsome, hilarious mind behind the last two Marvel Studios’ Thor outings, Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, and half of the team behind FX sitcom What We Do In The Shadows (based on the movie he directed). He’s also the Academy Award-winning writer of Jojo Rabbit and plays Blackbeard in HBO comedic pirate series Our Flag Means Death.
Waititi found himself photocopied into a lousy picture of himself getting arrested and accused of saying something on a hot mic. Waititi’s response? “The real crime is this person’s Photoshop skills.” The controversy that’s a non-controversy began with a bizarre Photoshopped photo from an account that links to a blank page and shares a name with a Moroccan singer on Facebook by the name of Yann’Sine. It features Waititi’s head badly put on a photo of a guy in a gray jacket being arrested by a bunch of cops with the caption “THE CHARGES AGAINST TAIKA WAITITI” were confirmed.
What charges? Nothing specific was mentioned. Whether it was illegal parking, donut theft, or something more serious, it wasn’t based on reality. Taika said of the image, “I’d credit the ‘artist’ but that might be considered cyberbullying.” Waititi then went on to address the numerous scammers that pretend to be him or any other celebrity and approach naïve fans by pretending to be someone famous, which can be a bad thing for celebrities and the fans that get taken advantage of often for monetary reasons.
“There have been a few bogus click-baitey things going around lately, including a bunch of fake accounts messaging people asking to chat. Please ignore them. Believe me, I don’t want to talk to any of you,” said Waititi. It’s humor typical of the mind behind Thor: Love and Thunder: Dry, slightly mean, and entirely funny.
Thor: Love and Thunder is available on Disney Plus.
