Thor: Love and Thunder is Waititi’s second director role with Marvel Studios, as he previously directed Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. The film is credited with restoring the legacy of the God of Thunder’s films and is often ranked highly among other MCU films. The cast for Love and Thunder will include several other returning faces, including Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Waititi shared the Love and Thunder fan art inspired by the Guns N’ Roses Appetite for Destruction album cover on Instagram. Waititi paired the image with the caption, “The movie is coming out on July something. I’ve been asked to give you all links to go buy tickets but I can’t find the email so instead I’m giving you this cool picture.” He followed the message with credit to the artist @daztibbles along with the Love and Thunder hashtag.
The fan art includes the signature Guns N’ Roses cross on the front of their Appetite for Destruction album cover but replaces the five heads of the band members with Thor, Korg, Mighty Thor, Valkyrie, and Gorr the God Butcher. The Thor title card surrounds the image, as does lightning. The original album cover featured Guns N Roses members, which included Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, and Steve Adler at the time.
Originally, the cover for Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction album cover was far more grotesque. The original plans featured a robot and a woman with torn clothes. The band was ultimately swayed into changing the art, birthing one of the most recognizable album covers to date. Appetite for Destruction’s current, well-known design was inspired by a tattoo on Rose’s arm that features a cross barring the heads of the band’s members. The notorious Guns N’ Roses album includes the equally popular Guns N’ Roses tracks “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Paradise City,” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” the latter of which was featured in the first Thor: Love and Thunder teaser.
A colorful soundtrack isn’t the norm for Thor films, though it isn’t unheard of in the MCU. The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks are often regarded for their groovy compilation and given the characters’ inclusion in Love and Thunder, there are certain to be a few recognizable tunes. The Guardians first made contact with Thor in Avengers: Infinity War and have since become a lighthearted group of ravagers. How they’ll work as a team in Thor’s world and against the threat of Gorr the God Butcher will allow Waititi will explore new sides of these Marvel characters.
Thor: Love and Thunder releases in theaters on July 8, 2022.
