Take-Two Interactive referred to a “new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises” in a recent fiscal report. Already, there’s been plenty of speculation as to what this project might be.
We know that it’s not one of 2K’s staple yearly titles in the WWE 2K and NBA 2K franchises, as those were discussed separately. The going theory is that there’s a new BioShock or Borderlands game coming, given that those are the two biggest franchises associated with the studio.
It’s already been four years since the release of BioShock: Infinite, but it’s difficult to imagine that such a high-profile project could be kept under wraps without any indication that it’s in the works. That said, there are plenty of gamers out there who would love to see a new installment.
It seems more likely that the title being referred to is Borderlands 3, which was recently teased via an Easter egg in Battleborn. Gearbox Software has made no secret of the fact that the game is in development, but we haven’t seen much of its progress outside of the odd technical demonstration. If the sequel is indeed inbound sooner rather than later, fans of the franchise are going to be very excited indeed.
However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick inferred that whatever this project is, it probably won’t appear at E3 2017. In an interview published earlier today, Zelnick noted that while the company will have a presence at the event, it won’t be showing much in terms of products. We will have to wait a bit longer to find out what this big game is — but if it’s truly set to release within the next year, we might not have to wait that long.
Take-Two Interactive is the parent company of firms such as 2K Games and Rockstar Games.
