The Australian shepherd dog Secret sadly passed away this May from complications from leukemia, but owner Mary keeps her memory alive by posting videos showcasing Secret’s many talents on the TikTok page @my_aussie_gal.
In this video, which has more than 800,000 likes and been viewed 4.6 million times, Secret can be seen painting a sunset scene on a blank canvas.
Secret apparently turns the camera on with her nose in her homemade artist’s studio, and the video caption reads: “Welcome to Dog Ross. Feel free to follow along and paint your own Secret sunset. She would have loved that.”
Secret can be seen bringing tubes of paint up to the camera, before applying them to the canvas to create a sunset scene complete with mountains, sun and clouds.
And Secret’s talents didn’t end there. In older videos, she can be seen playing Jenga, helping with the washing, playing guitar, doing yoga and cracking eggs into a bowl to make a pumpkin pie.
During Secret’s illness, Mary set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her treatment. The top two donations, both for $5,000, were from anonymous donors, and a sum of just over $202,000 was raised. However, Secret died five days before an experimental bone- marrow transplant could be performed.
In an update on GoFundMe from Mary’s father, Ted, all the remaining money from the fundraiser will be put into a non-profit organization in Secret’s name to go towards finding a cure for cancer.
According to the Animal Referral Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, leukemia is “referred to as the silent killer… the symptoms of blood cancer can be difficult to recognize until the cancer has become advanced.”
The hospital reports that, in dogs, leukemia accounts for 10 percent of all blood cancers diagnosed.
Many users expressed in the comments their sadness that Secret had died. Camay1962 wrote, “We all miss you sweet girl! Hope you are doing okay, Mary. ❤️”, while another person wrote: “And now you are watching those sunsets from high above. 🌞 We miss you Sectet!♥️”.
Many users were impressed by Secret’s talents. “When u realize that at the beginning she also pushed the record button. 😳 And painted?! What a talented dog! 😅” wrote one user, while another commented, “This dog can paint better than me.”
