The protagonists of Tales from the Borderlands were first introduced in an announcement trailer that also featured the familiar faces of munitions dealer Marcus Kincaid and all-around bad guy Handsome Jack. The two main characters of Tales from the Borderlands are Rhys, a cybernetically-enhanced and highly ambitious Hyperion “company man,” and fast-talking, smartly-dressed con artist Fiona. Both characters are playable, and the player will alternate between the two of them as the story progresses.
Further details about the series can be gleaned from the first batch of screenshots from Tales from the Borderlands, which were released today by Gearbox and Telltale. Irresponsible driving, dialogue trees, dismemberment and a few familiar faces are just a few of the things you’ll spot in this early look at the game.

Perhaps it’s just an accident of character design, but Rhys looks uncannily similar to the unmasked version of Handsome Jack. Jack, it’s worth noting, also worked in the lower echelons of Hyperion before taking the company over. Of course, thanks to Hyperion’s New-U stations, death on Pandora tends to lack permanence and it’s possible that Rhys is a revived version of Handsome Jack or a clone built from his DNA. Or maybe he’s just another handsome one-eyed guy, and the resemblance is coincidental.
Further details about Tales from the Borderlands’ gameplay have been made available over at the official PlayStation blog, the most notable of which is that loot obtained in Tales from the Borderlands will be available to use in other areas of the Borderlands franchise. The episodes will cost $4.99 each, or less with a season pass (the standard model for Telltale’s episodic series) and, as always, your choices will matter. As evidenced by the dialogue options in the screenshots above, silence is still an option.
Rhys and Fiona are not Vault Hunters themselves, but they will encounter Vault Hunters (including, as you can see, Zer0) along the way. Bossanova, a crime lord who has bad blood with Zer0, is pictured wielding an over-sized gun in the first screenshot, and apparently there will be no shortage of psychos in this game either.

Tales from the Borderlands is expected to release this summer. A full list of platforms has yet to be confirmed, but it will most likely be released on PC, Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360.
