Bart Decrem, founder of Tapulous, confirmed the announcement in a post on the Tapulous blog.
Erick Schonfeld from Tech Crunch spoke with Decrem on the phone, clarifying the acquisition details. Decrem’s official title will be the general manager and senior vice president for Disney’s Interactive Media Group - maintaining his operations in Palo Alto, CA. He also explained what the potential the new endeavor has.
As part of Disney Interactive Media Group, we’ll develop more games, more quickly and with the resources of the world’s leading entertainment company. We will continue to develop apps that live at the intersection of music and gaming, but we’ll also push into new and exciting areas of mobile social entertainment."
We can assume some positive work will come out of the Tapulous/Disney team - a talented startup blending with an also talented, established, well-funded company. With the other partnerships Disney has, the possibilities are nothing short of plentiful.
Tapulous’ Tap Tap Revenge holds the reign of most popular game series in the app store - it has been downloaded more than 35 million times, and has played over 1 billion songs. You can find the array of Tap Tap title’s in the iTunes app store.
