Published to Reddit’s popular r/AmITheA**hole forum, a partner under the anonymous username u/chocolatestarburst shared their story to receive feedback from the “AITA” community. The viral post has over 4,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments.
The original poster began their story by explaining how they were driving to their girlfriend’s apartment this weekend and was running late. They wrote how they aren’t a morning person and decided to stop by Starbucks to grab a coffee.
“When I showed up, she got excited thinking I got some for her, but I told her it was just for me. She got mad. We still spent our day together but I think me not bringing coffee soured the mood,” they concluded.

How to prevent yourself from being late
It can be easy to lose track of time and you could end up being late to something important. According to PsychologyToday.com, here are some tips on how to stop being late:
Reestimate how much time you think things will take: When tackling a chore, give yourself an extra 25-50 percent more time to get it done, just in case. Account for transition activities: Whether you have children or are just sitting in traffic, it can add extra minutes to get to your activity. Try to get where you need to be 10 minutes early. Try your best to remember to think ahead. Remember that being early isn’t a waste of time.

“You were running late but had time to stop at Starbucks. If she was expecting you earlier and you showed up later than expected with a Starbucks cup in hand and none for her, then lmao [you’re the ahole], an oblivious one though. Unintentional but still [the ahole],” u/recentworldevents wrote, receiving the top comment with over 12,000 upvotes.
“[You’re the a**hole] The worst thing one can do when THEY ARE LATE is to show up with a coffee ONLY for themselves,” u/ManukaC said.
“I would just say inconsiderate except you were running late. Stopping at Starbucks would make you even later. To be late and not even bother getting something for the person you left waiting for you makes [you the a**hole],” u/lizzybell2019 said.
“I wish there was a ‘you’re inconsiderate and clueless’ judgement,” commented u/penguin_squeak.
